Blessed ones, As it is the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, I thought I should do something to commemorate (not celebrate) this inauspicious event. Poor Harold! Poor England! Professor Gale Owen-Crocker is a renowned scholar of the Bayeux Tapestry, which is a near-contemporary, visual and textual record of the political intrigues that led up to the Battle of Hastings as well as the battle itself. Gale explains what it is about the Tapestry that got her hooked, why she can't stop herself from interacting with tourists at Bayeux, and what she's been saying about the Tapestry in recent public lectures. In fact, she's in Hastings today giving a talk to a group of reenactors there. Wonderful!
